Colombian Eje Cafetero
Colombia is recognized in the world for the quality of its coffee. The Coffee Axis of Colombia is made up of the departments of Caldas, Risaralda, and QuindÃo. Many coffee farms are open to tourism so that you can learn about the coffee growing process. On the coffee axis, it is common to make tours aboard colorful Jeep Willys that will lead you through the coffee plantations.
Salento
One of the oldest villages in the department of QuindÃo, founded in 1850. Located among huge mountains near the Cocora Valley, this town is dedicated to coffee production, trout fish farming, and tourism. Salento attracts the attention of its visitors with its picturesque streets and traditional "paisas" houses. Here, several of the coffee farms are open to visitors.
Filandia
This traditional coffee town is located very close to Salento. Filandia has well-preserved architecture, impressive nature reserves such as the Barbas River Canyon and the Bremen-La Popa Nature Reserve, and an impressive viewpoint on the Colina iluminada.
Cocora Valley
The spectacular Cocora Valley extends from eastern Salento to the lower basin of the Los Nevados National Natural Park. The valley is full of wax palms, the tallest palm trees in the world (reaching 60 meters high), and Colombia’s national tree. You can make excursions as a walk of 2 hours and a half to reach the Natural Reserve Acaime and travel 1 km extra, taking a detour to reach the Finca La Montaña.
