Popayán
"The White City"
Popayán was founded in 1537 by Sebastián de Belalcázar and was an important stop between Cartagena and Quito (Ecuador). Thanks to its good climate, rich families established themselves in this city in the 17th century, building schools, churches, mansions, and convents.
You can admire the city from the Belén Chapel, the Morro de Tulcán, or the viewpoint of the Three Crosses Hill. Also, visit the Church of San Francisco; the Archdiocesan Museum of Religious Art, which contains a collection of 17th-19th century items; the Humilladero Bridge, which is 240 meters long and is the most emblematic of Popayán, among others.
