Tayrona National Natural Park
The Tayrona National Natural Park was created in 1964 and is located at the foot of the highest coastal mountain range in the world, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This is where the Tayrona Indians lived. The park’s beaches are the most beautiful in Colombia, with crystal clear waters, white sand, coconut palms, and tropical rainforests. It is possible to make an excursion through the jungle, on foot or horseback, and appreciate the spectacular tropical landscape.
Within this park is one of the largest pre-Columbian cities discovered in America, The Lost City. This ancient and mysterious city, discovered in 1970, was the capital of the Tayrona and is located between 950 and 1,300 meters above sea level. To reach these ruins, a 44 km excursion in the depth of the jungle is done. The excursion takes between 4 and 6 days.
