The Maras Salineras S.A. Company has informed with an official statement sent to all institutions and tour operators that from June 15th it is forbidden to enter the Mara Salinera Wells, for health reasons, because the natural product is consumed throughout the country and all over the world.
They have stated that polluting agents have been found in the Wells.
They also indicate that the accesses will be regulated in order to provide a better flow of tourists.
The Maras district is located an hour and a half from the Imperial city of Cuzco and is part of the most famous tourist circuit in Peru, the Sacred Valley of the Incas where the famous Salineras de Maras can be found alongside thousands of little wells.
This is where the famous Mara Salineras is located: miles of small wells excavated on the mountainsides, filled with water that leaves salt at the bottom when it evaporates.
Depending on the hour of the day, incredible hues can be admired. A unique experience that is a must.
