Bahuaja-Sonene National Park
After a light, early breakfast, we set off to the Macaw Clay Lick, “El Chuncho,” in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. Along the way, we experience the awakening of the jungle, as well as the picturesque landscapes of the Tambopata’s riverbanks.
Upon arrival at the clay lick, we are greeted by the greatest wildlife spectacle that the Tambopata National Park has to offer: hundreds of parrots and macaws eating clay from the cliff. (Parrots and other birds routinely eat clay and gravel to help them digest their food.)
This is, indeed, the highlight of the tour—a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Afterwards, we head back to the lodge for a typical breakfast.
Later in the day, it’s time to experience Cascadas del Gato (the Cat Cascades), a natural hot springs. The cascades are the perfect place to swim and relax. Also, during the course of the day, for those who wish to participate, we offer kayaking, fishing, and zip-lining or tree climbing*.
After lunch, we enjoy another walk out and about the lodge. Our guide will explain how to recognize and find trees and plants of medicinal importance in the area.
And later, a nocturnal caiman search is sure to enliven your evening!
Dinner and overnight at the Tambopata Eco Lodge (full board included).

Sandoval Lake
After breakfast, we embark by motorboat to Puerto Maldonado, where lunch will be served at the Tambopata Eco Lodge.
After lunch, we enjoy a thirty-minute ride up the Madre de Dios River to Sandoval Lake.
Once we arrive, we board a canoe to more slowly and serenely paddle around the lake.
On Sandoval Lake, we observe kingfishers, herons, hoatzins, monkeys, and - with a bit of luck - the giant otters which call Sandoval Lake home. Later, we venture back to our motorboat and enjoy the sunset during our return trip on the Madre de Dios River.
