Bahuaja-Sonene National Park
Surrounded by wildlife, we wake to the sound of howler monkeys, observe exotic birds flying overhead, and enjoy the fresh air that fills our lungs.
This morning we visit the Chuncho Macaw Lick in the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park.
The Chuncho Macaw Lick is where we observe a most amazing and unique wildlife spectacle: hundreds of parrots and macaws gather to eat clay from the cliffs. (Parrots and other birds routinely eat clay and gravel to help them digest their food). This experience is the one that most amazes visitors to Tambopata National Park.
After this, we return to Tambopata Eco Lodge.
In the afternoon, an ethno-botanical walk is scheduled. During this walk, we learn about the medicinal properties of plants that surround the lodge. If we’re lucky, we may spot the footprints of a jaguar, too!
At night, fully equipped with lights, we travel by boat to spot caimans that live along the banks of the Tambopata River.
