Twilight Excursion
You will be greeted with a warm welcome on arrival at Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to the Peruvian Amazon Jungle. The tour starts with a 45-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios (meaning Mother of God) River, to arrive at the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge. After a short briefing, you will have time to settle into your cabaña and enjoy a relaxing lunch in the dining room. There is no shortage of things to do in the Amazon and on this particular tour, you can choose from 14 different activities. We recommend beginning with a guided walk along a nature trail as it is a great introduction to the rainforest environment. We also recommend a Twilight River excursion where you can witness day turn to night and see the nocturnal creatures come to life. You will learn about the different species in the area and be able to spot nightjars, owls, capybaras and caiman. After a delicious dinner, you can retire early or get to know the other guests and interpreters while taking in the sounds of this unique setting.
Day 2. Sandoval Lake – Inkaterra Canopy Walkway – Nature Presentation in the Eco Center

Wake up late or rise early - the choice is yours. Breakfast begins at 5:30 am, and ends at 9:30 am. During the morning you can opt for an excursion across Lake Sandoval in the heart of the Tambopata National Reserve to see the giant river otter, anacondas, red howler monkeys and macaws. After the excursion, return to the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica for lunch. If you have a sense of adventure, you might want to tackle the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. You can stroll across the treetops and rainforest canopy on a suspension bridge network which link a number of observation platforms. During your walk, make sure you keep your eyes open for colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, and sloths. There is the possibility of extending your excursion so you can watch the sunset from one of the towers if you wish. Once you return to the lodge, you can see the daily nature presentation in the Eco Center. Dinner will be served at 7:30 pm.
Day 3. Gamitana Creek Tour – Hacienda Concepcion Excursion

Gamitana Creek
Take a trip to Gamitana Creek, located about half an hour by boat from the lodge. For one and a half hours you have the pleasure of exploring the rainforest and the creek which is home to piranhas, caimans, turtles and birds. You will navigate your way back downstream and return to Gamitana Farm to undertake a short guided tour and observe how the local farmers grow their fruits and vegetables. Return to the lodge for lunch and a quick rest. After lunch, you will be given a tour of over 200 different plant species and learn about their extensive uses and benefits. This is followed by a 30-minute canoe ride to look for turtles, herons and nightjars to name a few. There is another opportunity to explore the nocturnal animals tonight as you venture into the forest to catch a glimpse of the animal activity. This two-hour excursion will give you a chance to listen to nocturnal forest sounds and spot species that only come out at night. Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Day 4. Butterfly House – Puerto Maldonado

End of the Tour - Attractions
Butterfly House
Enjoy a full breakfast before departing by boat back to Puerto Maldonado. Here you will visit the Mariposario Tambopata butterfly house. As Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, you will familiarize yourself with some of the local species with the help of friendly guides. The tour ends in Puerto Maldonado. The last lunch is not included, you have the option of dining at Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica before your leave for Puerto Maldonado or having a light snack at the Butterfly House before you board your flight.
