We will begin our excursion early in the morning in the Urubamba Valley, known as the “Sacred Valley of the Incas.” Our first stop will be the ruins of Pisaq, located on top of a hill at the entrance to the valley. The archaeological complex stretches along the ridge and is divided into four main sectors: Pisaq, Intihuatana, Q’allaqasa, and Kinchiracay.
We will then visit the picturesque Pisaq market, where we can observe local artisans at work and experience the ancient practice of bartering, which is still very common in the daily life of Andean communities. The market takes place every day, but on Sundays it is especially lively, with many artisans arriving from surrounding villages.
We will continue on to Urubamba, traveling along a scenic road toward the fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved examples of Inca urban planning. The atmosphere here feels suspended in time: the agricultural terraces surrounding the town and the views over the valley are truly impressive. Ollantaytambo is also one of the last constructions built by the Incas before the arrival of the Spaniards.
In the late afternoon, we will board a train to Aguas Calientes, where we will transfer to our hotel. This is where your Machu Picchu adventure begins! Overnight in Aguas Calientes.
