Choquequirao, is a lost city where the Incas took refuge in 1536, Located in the rain forest, at 3,100 meters above sea level, in the Apurimac Valley, in the Santa Teresa district and the province of La Convención. This archaeological site is considered as important as Machu Picchu. The trek will begin in the city of Cusco. After 145 km of tarmacked road and 12 km of unsurfaced road, you will reach the town of Capuliyoc. The route is surrounded by impressive landscapes and you will also be able to admire the local flora and fauna in the Apurimac Canyon, before arriving at "CHOQUEQUIRAO”, the "Golden Cradle" of the Incas.

Day 1. Cusco – Capuliyoc – Playa Rosalina – Santa Rosa

Early in the morning you will travel from Cusco to Curahuasi, located at 3,600 m above sea level, where you will have breakfast (not included in the price of the trek). The trip will last 3 hours approx. Then the journey continues to the town of Capuliyoc where muleteers will be waiting for you to start a 6 to 8 hour walk (depending on how fit you are and the pace for the walk). Here is where the trekking starts. On the way you will be able to admire the great Apurímac canyon and after 2 to 3 hours we will arrive in Chiquisca for lunch, and later you will continue with a 2 hour descent. You will cross the Apirimac River and the start to ascend once more for 3 hours approx. (the most difficult part of the walk) in order to arrive at the Santa Rosa camp known , our first overnight in tents.

Day 2. Santa Rosa – Marampata – Choquequirao

After breakfast you will continue by road to Marampata and the trip will take approximately 3 hours and is the most difficult part of the trekking. On the way the geographical panoramas will include mountains, snow-capped peaks, a semi-tropical valley on the left Flank until you reach Marampata. The trek will take approximately 2 hours and it will use the smoothest route to the Choquequirao’s camp. From here it will take another hour to reach the Choquequirao Ruins. Lunch will be served in the Choquequirao camp and in the afternoon there will be enough time to visit the Inca’s Complex of "Choquequirao" – a magical place full of energy and culture, with its square, the sacred fountains, the towers, the agricultural and urban section and from the terraces it is possible to see the dominions of the Inca. The return trip to the camp for your second night in tents will start at a given time.

Day 3. Choquequirao – Marampata – Playa Rosalina – Chiquisqa

Very early in the morning you will set off on the return trip to Playa Rosalina and will go via Marampata and then begin the descent to Santa Rosa where there will be a short break. The descent will then continue and you will arrive at Playa Rosalina in time for lunch, followed by some time to rest whilst waiting for the temperature to drop and start the 2 hour ascent to Chiquisqa for the overnight camp.

Day 4. Chikiska – Capuliyoc – Cusco

Breakfast will be served at 5am and then begin the ascent which will take approx. 3 hours, using the same route we took the first day, a gentle slope towards Capuliyoc. On the way we will see the local flora and fauna and breathtaking views of the Apurimac Canyon. In Capuliyoc you will board a transfer back to Cusco, stopping in Curahuasi for lunch (not included in the price). You will arrive in Cusco at around 5:00 pm where our services will end.

The trek to Choquequirao is a new trekking alternative that ends with the visit to the Choquequirao Ruins. It does not include a visit to Machu Picchu
