Why choose a 15-day itinerary

With 15 days you can combine the Tatacoa Desert with Tayrona Park and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta: two opposite ecosystems, from arid rock formations to rainforest dropping straight into the Caribbean Sea.

Compared to a 10-day itinerary, you have time to experience both areas at a relaxed pace. Compared to a 20-day trip, you'll still need to skip a third area like San Andrés, Guatapé or the Coffee Region.

Bogotá and the Tatacoa Desert

The trip begins in Bogotá, with at least two days dedicated to La Candelaria, the Gold Museum and Monserrate, before heading to the Tatacoa Desert.

With more days available you can spend more time on stargazing, famous in this area for its particularly clear skies, and on excursions among the red and gray rock formations.

Tayrona Park and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

The second part of the trip moves to the Caribbean coast: Tayrona Park offers wild beaches surrounded by rainforest, while the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta allows treks to indigenous archaeological sites like Ciudad Perdida.

With a week available you can alternate beach and relaxation days with more demanding hikes in the sierra, experiencing both sides of the region.

Return to Bogotá and departure

From the Caribbean coast, the return to Bogotá happens by domestic flight. A buffer night in the capital protects the trip from delays before the international flight.

If the timing allows, the last day can be dedicated to one final food tour or a neighborhood not yet visited.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ about Colombia in 15 days

With 15 days, the most balanced combination brings together the Tatacoa Desert with Tayrona Park and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. These are two opposite ecosystems, requiring a well-planned domestic flight to connect the Andean area to the Caribbean coast.

Adding the island of San Andrés would require an extra domestic flight and dedicated days, sacrificing the time available for Tatacoa or Tayrona. With 20 days you can instead include it as a third major area without compressing the rest of the trip.

It depends on the route: the trek to Ciudad Perdida requires several days and reasonable fitness, while other shorter excursions in the sierra are accessible to those with a general fitness level, with no need for technical experience.

Have more or fewer days available?

With 10 days you focus on Bogotá, Cartagena and Tatacoa. With 20 days we add San Andrés, Guatapé or the Coffee Region.
