The Maras Salineras S.A. company has informed, in an official statement sent to all institutions and tour operators, that from June 15th it is forbidden to enter the Maras Salineras pools, for health reasons, because the natural product obtained there is consumed throughout the country and around the world. Polluting agents, such as hair and cigarette butts, have been found in the pools. Access will therefore be regulated in order to provide a better flow of tourists.

The Maras district is located an hour and a half from the Imperial city of Cusco and is part of Peru's most famous tourist circuit, the Sacred Valley of the Incas, where the famous Salineras de Maras can be found alongside thousands of small pools. This is where the celebrated Maras Salineras are located: miles of small pools excavated on the mountainside, filled with water that leaves salt at the bottom when it evaporates.

Depending on the time of day, incredible hues can be admired. A unique experience, and a must for anyone visiting Peru.
