“The Jewel of the Pacific”
Valparaíso is the most peculiar city in Chile, seat of the Legislative Power and the Chilean Navy. It was the commercial center of the entire Pacific coast after the California gold rush triggered demand for Chilean wheat. Today it is a cruise ship stop and an important port area in Chile. Valparaíso has attracted poets, painters and philosophers who have found inspiration in its narrow streets and steep stairways, full of graffiti and urban art that turns any walk into an exploration. The climate in this city is temperate, with dry summers and humid winters: in summer temperatures can reach 30°C, while in winter the average temperature is 11°C.
Visit the house museum “La Sebastiana”, a refuge for Pablo Neruda, where you can admire the writer’s decoration and collections. Stroll through Sotomayor Square and admire the monument dedicated to the Naval Combat of Iquique. Climb aboard its famous funiculars and enjoy a spectacular, privileged view of the bay. In Valparaíso, get to know the joy of its carnivals and venture into its colorful streets.
